This month’s article comes to us from Ben and Diana Edgell. Ben and Diana are a wonderful couple that live in Northern Virginia, and they recently trained with us in our garage. Together, they have two young girls and a full life. They have a very interesting story to tell about searching for a fitness program that is effective and is enjoyable while producing results.

I hope you enjoy this article as much as we did.

New Article on Starting Strength Website

Grandma Shirely sitting on a tree

I wrote an article about strength training for seniors that was published on Starting Strength. Check it out at here.
My beloved grandmother, Shirley Mounsey, (pictured above on the tree branch) was the inspiration for this article. The article is largely the account of my collective experience training seniors. “Forever Young” is the focus – a senior strength training/fitness program that I currently teach in Fredericksburg, VA. The members of Forever Young are shown, below.

Forever Young Ladies

It is my hope to get this information out there so others can run similar programs. This ever growing demographic is poorly served by the commercial fitness industry. It is my sincere belief that the best preventative medicine is exercise coupled with a strong sense of community and belonging.

Happy New Year!

LiveFit Monthly – Issue 1 – January 2012

Gillian has decided to recharge her efforts towards LiveFit America, and in turn, asked me to write an article. I had originally picked a different topic, however this article was already written (for a different purpose) and I decided to use this article instead.

“LiveFit America Monthly” will be a monthly e-Pub. In time we hope to have guest writers. It is our plan to keep the LiveFit Monthly free as part of the non-profit effort to combat the growing epidemic of obesity and related illnesses.

I hope you enjoy the article and find it useful in your life.

On another note, with the start of the new year, Gillian and I are changing our training plan. We have been following Mark Rippetoe’s Advanced Novice Program and the Texas Method for about four months, and have decided to change it up a little bit. After seeing some of the incredible gains made by Jim Steel’s athletes, Tracey and Christi, we have asked Jim to help us with programming.

I will update the blog to document progress.

In Strength,

Mac
